Eliot’s poem Gerontion
Chronology
The opening credits show the characters and scenes of the series interspersed with mirrored panes. Former CIA Director of Counterintelligence James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “spy poet,” often described the intelligence game as the “wilderness of mirrors,” a phrase borrowed from T.S. government agencies, including those in the Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense, the correct/official explanation for the acronym “OBE” is “Overtaken by Events.” The opening credits show the characters and scenes of the series interspersed with mirrored panes. Former CIA Director of Counterintelligence James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “spy poet,” described the intelligence game as the “Wilderness of Mirrors,” which was a phrase borrowed from a poem by T.S. Eliot called Gerontion (the title is Greek for “little old man,” and the poem is an interior monologue relating the opinions and impressions of an elderly man, describing Europe after World War I through the eyes of a man who lived most of his life in the 19th century).
I hated the first episode
In the world of intelligence, in the search for truth, it is difficult to distinguish reality from its reflection, an illusion if you will, as if one were in a “hall of mirrors.” Starring in Graham Norton and the Fans: Cher/Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender/Josh Brolin/Jalen Ngonda (2024). It was too polished and predictable. It almost felt like they fired the entire writing room and hired a new team for episode 2.
Dialogue and overall production
Episode 1 had major technical flaws in terms of the technology used. Episode 2 was so well done, pacing wise. I understand some of the earlier reviews with low ratings.
The writing and storyline are everything
BUT if they continue to rely on the over-the-top dialogue from episode 1 and move forward, abandon the formula for a smooth delivery. Which can be so hard to stomach, this could be a truly exceptional production, especially with the talent that has joined this production. I hope they can iron out the early kinks and it will be a stunning show.
